Without your support, KidSide would not exist.

We help children from low-income families who are in crisis due to high-conflict Family Court cases receive critical protection, advocacy, and the ability to heal.

How KidSide HelpsFamily Court Services

More than 80% of the clients at Family Court Services do not have legal representation. Regardless of the reason, if a client’s emotions are in the driver’s seat when making decisions about their life and their family’s future, it can be problematic.

A Most Litigous Case – Testimonial

This family came to Family Court Services in dire need of assistance. It was a highly litigious case with no end to the conflict in sight. These are two young parents who barely knew one another and were struggling to know what are the right things to do for their child. The Court referred them to Family Court Services in a last ditch effort to find a resolution and hope for them.

Here is what the father’s attorney had to say about the services rendered:

“In my 34 years practicing in family law I have never before worked with such a competent and efficient family therapist. She became involved in a highly litigious paternity action which I thought would never settle out of court. However, a court order was entered allowing the parties to work on co-parenting with Dr. Berio and the case was miraculously resolved. Dr. Berio was able to understand each side and their differences. She explained the differences to them so that they could better understand each other. I am very happy to state that the parties have not engaged in any further litigation since Family Court Services became involved. “
– Barbara Munoz, Esq. –

The mother in the case also shared the following regarding her experience:

“I believe coparenting saved my daughter’s future. Starting off the two of us were so hostile and had so much resentment towards each other. I felt like it was going to go absolutely nowhere and that it was always going to be a battle and that him and I would never be able to understand each other. I look at Dr. Berio as the woman who not only saved my daughter’s future to being nothing but positive, but saving my ex and I and our future as co-parents. After all the sessions, we are now coparenting successfully, and we now have a strong and healthy parenting relationship. We trust each other, we are able to talk to each other about issues that we are both having as adults without arguing. We are able to do things together as a family with our daughter and we now have each other’s back forever. I am so proud of him. I am so proud of myself. I am so proud of us. Coparenting saved us and Family Court Services is the only one to thank. Ashley (our beautiful daughter) will also be grateful as she gets older because now she has two parents that love her and love each other as coparents. We do it all for her.”

Message from the Judiciary

As Chair of the Judicial Advisory Committee, I am thrilled to lead a group of great judges motivated to raise support for South Florida families desperate for services. Working diligently as a judge in Unified Family Court, I have a front row view of the positive change that KidSide makes as families grow and thrive while utilizing otherwise unavailable services. We view the pandemic tragedy as a challenge for us to get creative and develop new and effective ways to succeed. We are eager to introduce new ways that judges can assist. We are determined to be so effective this year that our momentum and new ideas will live on and continue to bring value to the families in South Florida for many years to come.

Message from the President

I hope this message finds everyone fully in the swing of 2021.

While it is sure to be an exciting and enriching year for us all, it will hopefully be just a bit less exciting than last year! This last year has brought about a startling amount of change, difficulty and triumph. I could not be prouder of the work that all of you have done on behalf of KidSide and Family Court Services during this wild and tumultuous year.

My focus as Chair this year will be to take our fundraising and other assistance to KidSide and Family Court Services to a new level. This focus is borne of the realization that the weakest of our population, the parents and children that are the primary beneficiaries of our efforts, and recipients of the tireless work of Family Court Services, need us now more than ever.

The reality is that the financial, medical, and social issues that have affected almost every aspect of our lives in this past year have affected those less fortunate in incalculably more serious ways. It is now, more than ever, that we must truly combine our efforts and help those in need, particularly the children.

It is towards this end that I ask for your commitment, your commitment to not just give or your time and resources, which are certainly important and necessary, but to also give of your heart. Give empathy. Give understanding. And most importantly, give of yourselves.

This is the commitment I am making during my year as Chairperson of KidSide. I am honored and excited to share this wonderful mission and journey with all of you.

KidSide 2021 Annual Retreat

As has been the custom for 20+ years now, KidSide held its annual retreat this past Saturday, January 23rd. In keeping with social distancing and safety measures, and in trying to make the online event fun and a way for new board members to break the ice and get to know one another better, the retreat took place via Zoom as an interactive pizza-making lunch event!

KidSide sent all those participating a complimentary pizza crust, and pizza sauce. Attendees then purchased desired toppings for their individual pizzas.

Check out these happy faces and their yummy pizza creations!
