Family Court Services Testimonial

Dear Dr. Berio
Family Court Services Specialist

Our family has two school-aged children who experienced the ordeal of their parents getting a divorce. This left the children exposed to an extraordinary emotional shock deepened by the parents’ lack of communication and allegations on both sides for seven months. This happened despite the involvement of different counselors from agencies in addition to school districts becoming involved with the children and the parents. These counselors mostly operated with a limited part of the family and mostly addressed the parents’ exchange of allegations.

After nine months, the situation was exacerbated instead of improving. Communication between the parents was halted. The children were separated and trapped between their parents’ allegations. There seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel for our family.

The turning point came when the Court appointed Dr. Berio from FCS and a Guardian Ad Litem, Ms. Solorzano. Within two months, there was reestablishment of communication between the parents. This was possible for the first time, after many failed attempts even for Christmas, for the children. The parents were able to come together for their children’s birthdays, which coincidentally are two-days apart.

No words can express the relief for the children. Until then, they had been deadlocked by their parents’ lack of communication and allegations for almost nine months. This was only achieved due to the work of the Court-appointed Dr. Berio from Family Court Services and the close collaboration with the Guardian ad litem, Ms. Solorzano.

My name is Hugo A., and I am giving consent to Dr. Berio to release our story, hoping FCS can receive the deserved support to never stop their awesome job for struggling families’ children due to a divorce.

Family Court Services is here to keep families connected while going through the judicial process.

Words From The Bench…

It is important to look around and envision how best to contribute to our community. It is equally important to create something that will last beyond any individual person. That is the gift of KidSide, Inc.

In the year 2000, KidSide was formed with the modest aim of raising money to furnish the supervised visitation room in the courthouse. Mission accomplished!

In 2007 the Florida Legislature cut the court’s budget and family court services was severely affected: all substance abuse testing was cancelled, 2 employees were let go and supervised visits were limited to just a few a month. KidSide was able to fill the gap between the needs of Family Court Services and the court budget.

The needs of the families and children who come to family court go beyond what Judges can resolve in the courtroom. The contributions from KidSide, Inc. allows the professionals in Family Court Services to assist our judges to help families leave the court system in a better condition than when they entered.

There is always more we can do to help families in crisis and the community’s support of KidSide, Inc. and Family Court Services assures me that assistance to families will be able to continue.

Your KidSide Donations At Work

Because of your support to KidSide, Family Court Services is able provide both in-house and referred-out services to families in need.

Though the list of services provided is extensive, not surprisingly, this month’s most requested, as detailed in the image below, were individual counseling and co-parenting.

Times are challenging, but COVID-19 has provided a unique set of challenges for families in distress.

Your contributions are the bridge providing KidSide the ability to assist FCS in helping families heal and supporting their needs.

Future newsletters will detail the monthly services, both referred out and in-house, which Family Court Services provides to distressed families. Stay tuned!
